Challenges to Restorative Justice in Canada

Designed by

Project Description

This project illustrates the complexity of restorative justice in Canada through information mapping and empathy. The system map and timeline is the synthesis of five SME interviews and 36 research studies, reports, and testimonials. They describes the pieces of the justice system that continue to challenge justice and the inter-relationships between them. The viewmaster slides are a prototype to give people a private space to consider sensitive topics and practice empathy. The shutter triggers the user through a series of seven prompts and questions that are intended to help them consider the material and connect their own memories to others’ experiences. Viewmasters are the chosen medium because they have associations with the past and offer privacy, something that a VR headset or a more open experience could not offer.
