Jillian travelled to Tumaco, Colombia to take part in a 3-week community design and innovation project that sought to use design for social benefit and peace rather than just profit. She co-developed workshops, participated as a member on an innovation team, documented hundreds of prototypes, and designed a 360 degree immersive experience to disseminate her team's research and tell the rich stories of the communities she visited. Her areas of research focus included design thinking, articulating preferred futures, thinking through making, designing for inclusion, intercultural communication, and co-design as a means of building interpersonal relationships.
