Project Description

The goal was to develop a “how might we” question to guide the creation of a system map; which aimed to communicate how existing systems contribute to creating the core issues that exist in the “how might we” question.

The "how might we" question that was developed asked: “how might we rethink urban planning and infrastructure development processes in Calgary’s downtown core to improve living standards.” The systems map itself focuses in on how existing legal, economic and belief systems degrades the quality of external and internal planning processes. Additionally, there is an emphasis on specific living standards; which was defined to include how we work, live, move, our environment as well as our arts and culture. From this, the degradation of specific living standards in the city's core was communictaed through the use of iconography.
