This project summarizes primary research and into a report providing insights on the
wayfinding strategies supporting or hindering users in spatial problem solving and
navigation within the Markin MacPhail Centre (MMC) located at Winsport’s Canada
Olympic Park in Calgary, AB.
The strategy employed in this project was to conduct observational research as a team,
compiling photos and notes on the facility to better understand how all the components
work together to create an experience for users. I took on the responsibility of taking
photos that would be used as evidence in the final report, photographing everything
from hockey arenas, conference rooms to directory maps, and room numbers. One of the
factors negatively affecting wayfinding at the MMC that our team discovered was how
overlapping naming and numbering systems caused confusion.
